Everything You Need to Know about Dehydration

Every day, you tend to lose a lot of liquid so it is important that you replenish it right away to keep your body in harmony. If dehydration worsens, it will eventually lead to death. That is alarming. There are many Singaporeans who suffer from dehydration every day. Dehydration should not be ignored or disregarded.


There are many causes of dehydration. The fluid loss can be attributed to diarrhoea, vomiting, fever and many more. The symptoms include swollen tongue, weakness, dizziness, inability to sweet, fainting, palpitations, thirstiness, dry mouth and many more. You should know that you can determine dehydration based on the urine colour.


If you notice that your urine is deeply yellow or amber, that may mean that you are dehydrated. Dehydration can be treated easily. You only need to replenish the bodily fluids you lost. You need to drink lots of water or sports drink. You can consider Gatorade, Powerade, Pedialite and many more. However, dehydration can be severe. You have to seek medical care as soon as you experience symptoms like weight loss, weakness, fever (of more than 101°F), diarrhoea and vomiting.

However, if you experience seizures, headaches, extreme thirst, rapid heartbeat, rapid breathing, fainting, lethargy, difficulty in breathing, fever (of more than 103°F), you should seek medical attention immediately. If you want to stay away from dehydration, do not forget to take lots of fluid.

Dehydration can affect any Singaporean. You have to be careful especially that it is summer. It is hot; we lose a lot of fluids. Just remember to replenish it and you will be good.
