The Next Cycling Towns

Good news for cyclists in Toa Payoh, Ang Mo Kio and Choa Chu Kang – cycling paths will be provided. The creation of cycling paths is the government’s initiative to promote and encourage cycling as a cheap, healthy and green form of transportation. The news was conveyed by the Health and Transport Secretary, Muhammad Faishal Ibrahim. Furthermore, he said that this is part of the plan to supply all twenty six HBD towns with a cycling system. The cycling system hopes to cover 190 kilometres by 2020.

Today, cycling is widespread here in Singapore. Many people consider this as a leisure, an effective means of transportation and more importantly, a step towards healthier body. The government is doing its best to ensure that the growing number of cyclists can cycle freely and safely. If you are cycling for its health benefits, here are some things that you need to know:

1. Builds strength/stamina

Cycling holistically builds strength. It does not only improve the legs but the whole body. As you go along cycling, you will not notice how far you have come. That means your stamina is increasing which is a good thing.

2. Enhance muscle tone

Cycling can enhance muscle tone. As you continue cycling, you will notice an improvement  of your legs, hips and thigh muscles. If your muscles are strengthened, mobility will follow.

3. Improves the heart

Cycling can improve the heart health. According to some studies, cycling, even for 20 miles every week can reduce your chances of developing chronic heart disease. If you practice this, you are likely to suffer from heart disease.

4. Lowers stress

Cycling can improve mental health. If you cycle continuously, it can reduce stress and anxiety you are feeling. If cycling makes you happy, it can be an effective distraction from all worries and stress you experience every day.

The list goes on. If you want to be healthy the fun way, you should consider cycling.
