Guidelines for Snorkel Beginners

There are experiences that are worth repeating here in Singapore. In this case, snorkelling is a fun activity and it is surely something that you have to repeat until you get tired – which won’t happen. Many people think that snorkelling is easy. Well, it is not as complicated as scuba diving but you have to have necessary skills to be successful.

You will learn necessary skills if you enrol to some trainings. Here are some tips for beginners:

Do not rent
You are starting. It is better that you invest on your equipment than rent for cheap ones. Cheap ones may be damaged easily and you do not want to panic whilst underwater. You have to feel safe when you use your equipment. Make sure you have quality mask, snorkel and fins.

Practice with your gear
When you buy equipment, there are things that you need to consider. It is best if you get the help of seasoned snorkelers. If you do not have a guide with you, just make sure the mask will fit perfectly to avoid leaking or fogging, dry snorkel has good seals and fins that fit.

After securing equipment, you have to practice with your gear so you will be familiar with the feel. You can try the pool or any calm shallow beach near you. If it leaks, make a necessary adjustment.

Plan your snorkelling
You have learned basic skills and it is time to go. Do not just get on with it without planning. It is crucial that you plan your snorkel. Begin by choosing the location carefully. The location should be calm and interesting.

Snorkelling happens because you love it. It can be frightening at first but you have to be confident so you can enjoy everything. Appreciate the experience because you are lucky to witness and watch the wonders of the underwater world. Snorkelling is even therapeutic if you believe it. Allowing yourself to be carried by water in that moment and seeing the life around you is what it is all about. If you do not feel like doing it, do not consider it because you will just waste your precious time and effort.

First time snorkelling may be poor but that happens. The good news is that it will get better once you are used to it. So, do not get discouraged the first time. There is a whole new different world underwater and it is a privilege to see it. Be a steward too – give back to the ocean by taking good care of it.

Enjoy the experience and come for more.
